Is a charity program run by a group of teachers and second level students of Skerries Community College, for the summer of 2011 for one month. Our aim is to help the standard of living for many underprivileged children. To do this we will be going to re-furbish an orphanage, take the children to get clothes and buy them school supplies. We will also be helping out in a turtle sanctuary during our stay. To do this, each student must fundraise €4,500 to cover the costs of transport and all refurbishments that will be done. My name is Niamh Russell and I am one of the 17 student volunteers to take part in this ‘Charity trip’. As the last few months before the trip are approaching at a fast rate, I need to fundraise the last of my money. To do this I will be holding a Church Gate Collection on Sat 12th and Sun 13th March 2011. All donations are greatly appreciated. Thank you for your support.
International Eucharistic Congress 2012:
The official launch of the IEC 2012 occurred on Mon 7th March 2011 and there is now a dedicated website with lots of information. It can be found at www.iec2012.ie. There is a section detailing what’s on in our diocese, latest news about the IEC, videos, an opportunity to volunteer and lots more.
Lusk Athletic Club:
Well done to those who travelled to Morton Stadium to take part in the Spring series races. The second leg of this event is on Sun. 13th in St. Anne's park in Raheny. The final round will be Sun. 27th and will take place on the beach in Skerries. The club will be taking part in the St. Patrick's day parade so all members, mentors and parents are welcome to take part and help on the day. Good luck to all those who will travel to Magherafelt to take part in the Nationals on 19th & 20th March. There will be no Little Athletics training on Tuesday 15th. The club is walking in the parade on 17th - see you there!
Important Notice to all Parishioners
Due to the high demand for intentions at all masses especially weekend masses it has been decided to have more than one intention for each mass. This is to accommodate families who would like to attend the mass.
The Parish Pastoral Council has decided to change the format of the Parish Newsletter, following a recent review. It has been agreed to separate the Sunday missalette from the Newsletter and to provide a full four page mass missalette with all the prayers, readings and responses. The expanded Newsletter will run to four A5 pages, allowing for more space for our parish schools, clubs and organisations to inform parishioners of their activities and events. We request all interested PROs to e-mail their weekly news to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Our newsletter is compiled each week, on a voluntary basis, by Yvonne Cadogan. Lusk Parish Pastoral Council is very grateful to Yvonne for all the wonderful work she does in ensuring that the newsletter is produced each week. With the forthcoming expansion of the newsletter it is important that the parish urgently finds a number of volunteers to support Yvonne's efforts. If you are in a position to volunteer, we need people with graphic design and typing skills. Please contact the parish office at (01)8438421.
A mission is a week of prayer and reflection, listening to the word of God, and finding out what God is asking of us as individuals and parish at this time in our lives. It is an opportunity for a new beginning, to individually and collectively serve God in a more meaningful way. It also an opportunity to find out how to make time in our busy lives to follow the teaching of His Son Jesus, especially at a time when we are approaching Holy Week and are preparing to celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ at Easter. The Parish Pastoral Council invites all parishioners to a gathering for Mission in the Parish church commencing on the 9th April. The Mission will be conducted by the Capuchin’s and will run for one week. Further details of the week’s events will be communicated at masses in the newsletter and be posted in the church. A parish prayer is currently being printed on cards to be handed out to all parishioners within the next week. This prayer will be said at all masses leading up to the mission, and we will be asking all parishioners to recite the prayer daily for the success of the mission in our parish. The Parish mission will begin on April 9th 2011. PPC.
