Lusk Tidy Towns Association
Is delighted with the increased marks awarded in the 2010 tidy towns competition. Lusk was commended on securing third place in Dublin county Fingal region. Congratulations to Skerries and Malahide who came first and second respectively. Housing estates in Lusk looked very well and Orlynn Park came in for special mention for its tidy and colourful entrances. The Catholic Church, graveyard and green were well kept. Special mention was made of the trees planted in Lusk. Lusk local schools were commended on their environment and wild life awareness programmes. All in all it gives great encouragement to the people of Lusk to continue the good work. Talanstown, Co Louth won after 26 years trying, Lusk is over 30 years trying to achieve overall success, but in the meantime we will try and keep Lusk tidy for ourselves and our welcome visitors. A very special thank you to everyone who helped in any way and to the residents who put out lovely hanging baskets and window boxes. The report was very good by the judges so it will be full speed ahead for next year

Tax Relief Scheme
Did you know that for PAYE taxpayers the tax you paid on the money you give to the Parish may be refunded to the parish? The Tax Relief Scheme is completely confidential. There are some rules and regulations. Firstly you have to pay all your tax PAYE. Secondly you have to give at least €250 (i.e. to Dues and the Parish Fund) within the tax year, monies given in basket collections are not eligible. Thirdly the parish has to issue you a CHY2 Certificate, and when you sign it and send it back then all the tax you paid at either 20% 0r 41% will be refunded to the parish. For those who pay tax at 20% and give €250 the refund that can be claimed by the parish is €62.50 making your gift worth €312 and for those on 41% tax the refund is €125 bring your total to €424. There is great potential in this scheme to increase parish income and make your generous giving more effective. To help us begin to avail of this scheme we will distribute receipts for the tax year 2008-2009 to all those people who contributed more than €200. We appreciate all contributions to parish income and we welcome parishioners assistance with the introduction of the Tax Relief Scheme.

Parish Finances
The Parish Office is preparing the next set of boxes of Weekly Envelopes for contributions for the Parish Fund. This fund is used for the daily running costs of the parish. Last year parishioners contributed by envelope, standing order or annual cheque a total of €47,023 to the Parish Fund. Our ordinary parish expenses were €53,252. We also paid €26,209 from our Capital Fund Account for Maintenance and Repairs and Professional Fees. We would love to close the gap between expenditure and income. We would really welcome new contributors, please get in touch with the Parish Office on 8438421 and Yvonne can arrange for you to get a box of envelopes or a Standing Order form. Any small increase in contributions will help the parish meet its target of covering its costs. Many thanks to all those who already give generously.

The Old School House
The Black Raven Pipe Band is and will remain our anchor users of the Old School and under their care the building has been in constant use. The Diocesan authorities instructed the parish to have the building surveyed and we are now obliged to undertake the works recommended by the survey. This will include repairs to the roof, chimneys, render, guttering, windows, rewiring, fire safety and redress of some damaged timbers. In discussion with the Band, the Architect and the Planners the Parish committees have looked at developing the use of the Old School Building. The Band just use the upper floor of the building and meet on particular evenings. The downstairs room has great potential as a meeting room, function hall and place of gathering for the parish. The Architect has drawn up a plan that would restore the entire building, strengthening the floor between the two levels, adding a toilet block, putting in a kitchenette and a store room, transforming the building for another 100 years of service. Members of the Parish Committees are available to meet with any organisations in the parish who would like more information about this project and who might like to express an interest in using the Old School for their activities in the future.
